Duties: 

Under supervision of the QA Manager, the QA Internal Auditor will 1) conduct internal audits of client medical records, Unit of Service Logs and any other records that are related to the requirements set by the Medi-Cal funded programs; 2) prepare internal reports detailing the audit findings; 3) assist the QA Manager in providing targeted trainings for program staff; and 4) conduct follow up reviews to ensure that chart deficiencies have been corrected by program staff.
Conduct internal audits of client records, Unit of Service Logs, and any other relevant documents by following the requirements and guidelines set forth by the state and county.

Possess a good knowledge base of the LA DMH charting and billing requirements as described in the various LA County DMH manuals: Organizational Provider Manual, Procedure Codes Manual and MIS/IS Codes Manuals.

Prepare written audit reports in a highly organized, systematic, and detailed manner within the established deadlines.

Verify that programs are following the Center and DMH policies and procedures as they relate to areas of QA/QI.

Maintain audit tracking data base, monitor and track areas for follow up and correction by program staff.

Co-lead documentation and billing trainings for program staff with the QA Manager.

Interface with direct service staff, supervisors and managers in a professional and diplomatic way.
Execute other duties as assigned by the QA Manager.

Qualifications: 

A.A. in Social Work, Psychology, or related field with at least six (6) years experience working in the field required. B.A. in Social Work, Psychology or related field desired.

Minimum two (2) years professional experience providing direct services, such as Targeted Case Management and/or Rehabilitative Services, to a mentally ill/severely emotionally disturbed client population.
Must act in accordance with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and related state law confidentiality requirements. Must successfully complete the Center’s HIPAA training, pass the HIPAA test, and receive the Certification of Compliance.

Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.

Interacting with other employees at work is an essential function of the job.

Arriving at work on time and not leaving early is an essential function of the job.

Knowledge of chronically mentally ill population and the different types of mental health services available to this population.

May be required to have a current California Driver’s License and be insurable by the Center’s auto insurance carrier.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work is required.

Must be proficient in reading and writing; able to understand technical procedure and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondences. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from direct service staff, supervisors and managers.

Must be able to work independently and complete tasks within pre-established timelines.

Must travel to the Center’s programs sites throughout the San Fernando Valley (Van Nuys, Mission Hills and North Hollywood areas) to conduct audits, meet with program staff and conduct staff trainings.
