Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Program Stories

Since the improvement in the California job market, approximately 25 – 35 % of DVPTP clients are actively participating in a combination of individual counseling, case management, and multiple groups as well as WTW activities.

“I am a survivor of domestic violence.  Thank you for the Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Program, CalWORKs, that has helped me with … counseling, transportation, food, and child care — it makes life better.  …I now value my life and have the desire to live and be strong!”

“I am a survivor of domestic violence.  …This program has helped me to overcome my low self-esteem and fears of being alone.  I never knew so many women have been in the same situation as myself and now I see that I’m not alone.  I tried to hide my secrets.  I was ashamed and embarrassed.  Unfortunately, I have been out of a job for the last 6 months.  …. If it wasn’t for the Welfare- to-Work program, me and my kids would be out of the street.  I am a single mother of 4 trying to find my place in the world again.”
