San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center
has been chosen as a 2021 Nonprofit of the Year!

HONORED BY ASSEMBLYMEMBER ADRIN NAZARIAN

Our Center is proud to announce it has been selected as a 2021 California Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian.

SFVCMHC is one of more than one hundred nonprofits that are being honored by their state senators and assemblymembers for their tremendous contributions to the communities they serve.

Founded in 1970, SFVCMHC is one of the largest and most comprehensive behavioral health service providers in Los Angeles County, serving more than 15,000 children, transition age youth, adults, older adults and families through its 50 programs each year. We are dedicated to improving the mental health of individuals and families by providing effective, culturally-sensitive therapeutic services based on each client’s individual needs, strengths and choices. Achieving this mission results in our vision and motto of Moving Lives Forward. Our commitment to mental health has kept families together, protected individuals from abuse, placed the homeless in safe housing and has given hope to thousands of individuals each year that a better life is possible. When vulnerable and marginalized individuals and families are empowered to move their lives forward, self-sufficiency, opportunity, and well-being become realistic goals.

“We are truly honored by this recognition, especially coming from our wonderful Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian, who has seen firsthand the great work our Center does for the underserved individuals and families here in the San Fernando Valley.” Tim Ryder, President/CEO

“The pandemic and shelter-in-place orders of the past year and a half have put nonprofits – usually hidden in plain sight – in the spotlight,” explains Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits). “California Nonprofit of the Year is an opportunity for our elected officials to celebrate the good work they see nonprofits doing in their districts, and for everyone to appreciate the collective impact of nonprofits in our communities.”

California Nonprofits Day, now in its sixth year, was formally recognized by 2021 Assembly Concurrent Resolution 80, authored by Assemblymember Luz Rivas, and co-authored by Senator Monique Limón. Each year legislators from across California have chosen a Nonprofit of the Year in their district.
